Przymiotniki jednosylabowe lub dwusylabowe, które kończą się na -y:
w stopniu wyższym dodajemy -er; w stopniu najwyższym the + -est
np.: small -> smaller -> the smallest

Inne, dłuższe przymiotniki:
w stopniu wyższym dodajemy more przed przymiotnikiem, a w stopniu najwyższym the most:
Np.: beautiful -> more/less beautiful -> the most/least beautiful  

Nieregularne przymiotniki, np.:
good -> better -> the best
bad -> worse -> the worst
far -> further -> the furthest
many/much -> more -> the most 
little -> less -> the least 

Aby porównać dwie różniące się rzeczy używając stopnia wyższego przymiotnika, użyjemy słowa than (niż): 
Ola is taller than Ania.
