I’M SORRY
About five years ago, a man broke into Suzie Forest’s house in New York. He stole $2,000
and several pieces of jewellery. 7.1. _____ It meant a lot to Ms Forest, and she used to wear
it every day. Ms Forest was so upset by the loss of her jewellery that she didn’t call the police
immediately after the theft. As a result, the police never managed to catch the thief.
Imagine Ms Forest’s surprise when, three years later, she received a package. 7.2. _____
“I’m so sorry that I stole them from you,” it said. The thief went on to explain that the jewels
had brought him nothing but bad luck.
It seems that ever since he had robbed Ms Forest’s house, he’d had a very difficult time.
So, the jewel thief, who didn’t give his name, decided to change for the better and return
everything. 7.3. _____ Ms Forest, delighted with the thief’s apology and unexpected promise,
asked the police not to arrest the man if they ever found him.
