However, in other places in the world the events connected with the coming of age are often more spectacular,embarrassing or even potentially dangerous. In a Brazilian Amazon tribe boys start being treated as adults when they are 13. Another place in the world where teenagers are expected to show bravery in order to become adults is North Baffin Island. Inuit boys and girls have to demonstrate their hunting skills and resistance to the harsh Arctic weather conditions. Bungee jumping fans, in turn, might be interested in a rite of passage that takes place in Vanuatu. (3) _____As the line lacks any elasticity, the jump may result in serious injury or even death.There are also some interesting coming-of-age rituals for girls. For instance, in some parts of China, 15-year-old girls attend an official ceremony wearing a traditional dress. From that moment on, they are allowed to adopt some of the local practices, such as wearing their hair in a bun or using hair pins. (4) _____ Once it is completed, the girl is welcomed into the family as an adult. She is now eligible to marry, so matchmakers start looking for a prospective husband. There are currently around 1.8 billion young people in the world, which means that one fourth of the world’s population will mark the passage from childhood to adulthood this year. Growing up in different cultures means that they all have to go through various rituals. (5) _____ Each of them have their dreams and expectations for the future.
