A “VILLAGE” OF TINY HOUSES
Moving from an apartment in a big city to a house in the country is always a big decision.
The Brinks family bought 21 acres of land in Kentucky and started discussing what type
of house would be best for them. Initially, Mr. Brinks wanted to build one big house for
the whole family. 7.1. _____ She was also sure that the construction of several small houses
would take less time than building one big house. 7.2. _____ That argument was very
important to the Brinks family because they wanted to live ecologically and save energy.
Having completed their project, the Brinks are very satisfied with the result. The whole place
looks like a little village with shared spaces such as a swimming pool and an outside
fireplace. How does the unusual arrangement work? The parents’ house is larger and more
expensive than the rest of the buildings. 7.3. _____ But it is still very small. The parents’ bed
is above the kitchen and they have to climb a ladder to get into it. The children, Lennox and
Brodey, have their own houses, each consisting of just one room. 7.4. _____ They were also
decorated according to the children’s personal tastes. Lennox and Brodey like their little
homes a lot, and they don’t mind having to go outside and walk to a separate bathroom
building.
