In Vietnam, the first days of the New Year are called Tet. They are always in January or February,
but the exact date depends on the position of the Moon. The first day of Tet is a very special day
because it is everyone's birthday - on the first day of each year, everyone is one year older. On
this day, parents do not give their children toys or clothes, but they give them money in red
envelopes. Then the children make wishes for the New Year.
The Tet celebration continues for a few more days. After the first day, people invite their aunts,
uncles and other people in their family to their house. Their friends often come over, too. They
play traditional games and eat traditional food, such as rice cooked in big leaves. But not everything
is traditional at Tet. For example, people sing and listen to a modern song - Happy New Year. So,
like all 21st century festivals, Tet is a mixture of old and new.
