Black Beauty is a story told from the point of view of a horse. When Black Beauty is trained to carry a rider on his back, and to pull a carriage behind him, he finds it hard at first. But he is lucky – his first owner is a kind person, who loves horses and takes good care of them. However, Black Beauty soon finds out that not all people are nice. When the horse is sold, the new owner feels no pity for him and makes him work long hours. Black Beauty is then sold several more times and his life becomes worse and worse. Some readers may find Black Beauty slightly old-fashioned. However, it reminds us that horses have feelings and can’t be used like machines, which, I believe, is something we still need to hear today.

Around 5 million people watch various horse races annually in the UK. Only football matches gain a larger audience! But British people don’t just watch sports involving horses. In 2015, surveys showed that 2.7 million people in the UK rode a horse at least once a year. Today, this number is over 3 million. By contrast, the number of horses owned by individuals is lower now than it used to be ten years ago.

ENJOY THE HILLS

To get the most out of our riding trip in Wales you need to be healthy and fit, have basic riding skills and enjoy the outdoors! You will ride the same horse on both days, so you will be able to get to know your horse well.

Day 1
Arrive at Green Farm in Swansea at 9 a.m. Meet your guide, your fellow riders and your horse. The route on the first day is not very difficult. As you ride in the hills, you’ll be able to observe the wildlife. Of course, the most common animals are deer and red squirrels but if you’re lucky you might even see some wild ponies, which are quite rare. The ride will finish at 5 p.m.

Day 2
Your ride starts at 9 a.m. Choose an easier route which goes along the river to an old bridge or a more challenging one which goes past a 14th-century castle. You will arrive back at Green Farm for tea and cakes, and you’ll have time to say goodbye to your horse and your guide

Do you remember that fantastic book we read together when we were kids?
The story was narrated by a horse and it was so sad! Unfortunately, he had
