Last summer I was looking (1) _________ a full-time job in IT because I had (2) _________ thinking of becoming a computer programmer for a while. Unfortunately, they turned me down because there was a candidate who was already studying programming and the company thought he would need less training and would (3) _________ ahead faster than me. To my surprise, two weeks later I got a call from the company – they wanted to know if I was still interested in the job because the person had been fired. He (4) _________ spent most of his time on the phone and never did the things he was asked to do! They were short of staff because of the holiday season and they really needed someone to start right away. Of course I said yes. My job wasn’t very exciting and not at all connected with programming but the conditions were very good – I worked (5) _________ nine to five, they even signed a contract with me. And I was learning so much. Every morning, one of the project managers would explain the tasks to me in great detail. I also learnt a lot about the business side of the firm, which was something I (6) _________ never really thought much about before. I discovered that I enjoyed keeping up with the deadlines, and, by the end of the summer, I took (7) _________ one of the company’s minor projects as a junior project manager. When I finally applied to university, the company wrote a letter saying that I was really skilled and that I had done great job for them. They even mentioned that they would consider (8) _________ me a job after my graduation! But I’m not training to be a computer programmer – I’m doing a degree in project management!
