Strony biernej używamy, by podkreślić, że czynność jest ważniejsza od wykonawcy.
Wykonawcę czynności, jeśli nie jest oczywisty, wprowadzamy słówkiem ‘by’.

| Czasowniki modalne | can / could / may / might / must / have to / should / ought to + be + III forma/-ed |
Konstrukcje bezosobowe w stronie biernej (bez podawania źródła):
It + is/was + said/thought/believed/known that ...
lub
Osoba + is/was + said/thought/believed/known + to + bezokolicznik
W odniesieniu do przeszłych wydarzeń można także użyć następującej konstrukcji:
Osoba + be + said/thought/believed/known + to have + III forma/-ed
1. This old hairdryer hasn't been used for years.
2. Hopefully, a cure for AIDS will have been invented by then.
3. Calculations are going to be made using a special computer programme.
4. She may be taken to hospital tomorrow by an ambulance.
5. Why wasn't the roof fixed?
6. We aren't given any rewards by the teacher.
7. The gate had to be opened with a spare key.
8. Your dog will be taken care of.
9. While the walls were being painted, I was relaxing in the garden.
10. It's a good idea but it cannot be carried out in practice.
11. Had the date on the invitations been changed before they were sent.
12. My old camera has been used to take this photograph.
